What is the best way to deal with pax that order an X, then show up to your door with 5-6 people? At times you are in a big surge, going the right direction and distance, and you don't want to turn down the large X fare even though you know it should be much higher as an XL ride. Is there any way to switch to XL after pax get in the car? It would be great if the pax had to do it themselves before their ride started.
It depends on how well you can size up the group. Young people, drive away. Otherwise if they are sober and reasonable pitch the "I personally would do it but in the event of an accident I would be held liable" then pause for a reaction. If they wine drive away if they are understanding ask them what Uber quoted them and pitch that if they want they should cancel and you'll do it for $10.00 less than Uber's fee providing its cash only. Make sure they have cash if not insist on stopping at an atm PERIOD! Now those folks on this site are going to cry foul, that's fine. But there are many on here know what I'm talking about and how size up each situation. Again if you feel uncomfortable don't do it !

You are an independent contractor. One of your job is to follow Uber's policy on each ride. Pax is trying to cheat Uber and ordering X ride and keep cancelling until they get SUV for their extra rider. What should you do when you know it as you are hired to handle Uber's job? You should Cancel the ride.
Second, you have to worry insurance coverage. For each ride, Uber is taking a hidden portion of fares for rider's insurance coverage for the trip. When there was an accident and their claim include extra riders, Uber will terminate you without thinking twice. So should you accept that kind of ride?
Be smart. Save your contract. Pax are not your customers nor neighbors.
Just explain them, It is Uber's policy that you can not take more than 3 for X ride or you will loose your job. Suggest them to order XL ride and you will accept the request right away.

Tell them you can take 4 and they can csll another car. Or, tell them you would make two trips if you can leave the "meter" running...
