Where my Reno drivers?

Not much activity here... It'd be great to hear the experiences of fellow Reno drivers.

Anyone score big with the Tesla party? I picked up plenty of Tesla people from the airport during the week. They all told me to expect big business Friday. Even received texts from Uber claiming I'd crush it! Hung by the Whitney at party time but there were 10 shuttle buses there for party goers! Not one ride to or from the factory. Bummer! I have 4 resumes at Tesla and was hoping to do a little networking.

Y'all hear about the new staging area for RNO? Its been the wild west there lately! I'll believe it when I see it! Hate those cheaters!

Anyone else try to avoid 431 up and over to Incline Village? All those curves around cliff drops give me the heebie jeebies! Not too mention all the constant braking adding to wear and tear on the vehicle. I always take 80 back to town.

To the Uber driver who gave me 2 ice cold bottled waters in the ride share pick up area at RNO as we awaited our riders in 103 heat; bless you and thanks again!

I was wondering myself if anybody got anything for the Tesla party. I am actually driving a bus going to Tesla every morning and I have to pick up in the evening. So I did see the party. I am waiting for a car repair to be scheduled so I am out of order at the moment for Uber. I have picked up a few people at RNO. Wasn't bad. My last pickup at the airport did take me to Incline Village and I was already sleepy and tired. Did not want to go ( but I cheerfully did) and I struggled coming back. Closed up shop and went home to bed. Good luck getting a job at Tesla..let me know if you do.

Thanks for a quick 'back at ya' response. No you are not the only Uber driver but maybe the only one on this forum..who knows. I just started in early April but because of the bus and sometimes truck driver, I can only legally drive at certain hrs. But the bus is a temp job to Tesla everyday and I don't really want to be a truck driver..LOL. So hoping Uber can feel in the gaps of unemployment. How long have you been doing this and do you work around another job?

Oh I meant on this forum. I know there are plenty of Reno drivers! Too many now days! I started in May and I've noticed the influx. The ones I've met seem very nice. Don, Paul, Jack, Marge, etc... Not Larry! He is always cruising the loop at the airport!

I'm in between jobs and Uber is awesome for me! I make enough to get by but still only drive when I want. I usually bank $500-800/week depending on how much time I put in. I'm an extrovert so the interaction with riders is fun for me. I've only really had one that got on my nerves the majority are delightful.

I've had no luck with Tesla but I'm inverviewing with another large local company. Pretty excited! Look forward to Uber being part time for extra money and kicks! That's wild you have a gig ferrying Tesla folks back and forth. What a nice service to offer their employees. You're obviously a professional driver. I'm sure 431 doesn't bother you. I couldn't imagine driving a bus over that sucker!

Nice to chit chat with a fellow Reno driver! Pop in here whenever wish to jaw about something. We'll share war stories from the road!

By the way, my name is Mary. I only personally know 3 other Uber drivers and you are right. Once the market gets saturated what will that do for business. I think it will be a while before that happens though. And I jokingly said what I said about you being a lone Uber driver around here. I have really enjoyed doing Uber and meeting the people too. Everyone so far as been great. Some greater then others, but no complaints. I have a little dark blue Honda fit. I bought it just for Uber. Really like the car; fun to drive and a lot of back seat head space and foot room. I have cars but they all were too old. I went through my credit union with a secured loan off my own money. Glad I got it. Anxious to get back to Ubering. I guess the new kink in the plan though is the business license. I am trying to make a decision on that while I am out of commission. Also I don't have a smart phone so I use my tablet. It has worked great until last time out and the map navigation thing would never work right. But they were easy runs so I didn't really need it.

Hey guys, just wanted to pop in and say hi as a fellow Reno driver.
So fill me in on the new RNO staging area? I never stage and the times I hang out even nearby RNO, I never get requests. It's normally when I'm a few miles away - go figure. What's mildly irritating though is on 2 occasions when picking up at RNO I've had the same older gentlemen mistakenly pick up my pax and have to bring them back when the pax realizes their driver is supposed to be a woman. He seems to always be just hanging around the rideshare pickup area?
Anywho 431 doesn't make me nervous but feel like I'm going through tires quicker. I much prefer 80. Do we know if there's anyway to drive in CA market too? I do Truckee/Tahoe trips frequently and hate that I can't get a fare back since I'm in CA

Hi Missy! If that fella you mentioned poaching your rides at RNO drives a small white suv; I know who it is! He's a rascal. Go a head and get in his business next time you see him. He's a notorious cheater!

No news on the RNO staging area. Could just be driver gossip. Not sure how I feel about it if true. I found a honey spot near by I'm real happy with! Had back to back South Lake runs on Friday and it was surging after the second so I stayed a while! Lucrative! Haven't had the elusive right back to town yet.

Yea we cant pick up in CA, bummer! I've gotten lucky and received a couple pings from Verde on the way back from Truckee. Pretty awesome! A lot of luck involved in this game we're in.

Nice to meet you both! I don't remember what he was driving but I thought it was an odd coincidence he did it to me twice. It's not like he even would have gotten paid for them.
I'd love to try my hand at driving in Tahoe other than drop offs but I'm not familiar with SLT so it makes me nervous. I know Reno like the back of my hand so I always stay close to home but I need to branch out. Especially when they have events like the celebrity golf tournament when it was surging at 6+! Do you guys drive both platforms? I do. Some weeks it's all Uber, this week interestingly in was like 75% Lyft

Hi Mary, didn't see your post till now. I do not have that thing you mentioned. Didn't see it as a requirement. I'll look into it soon. For now I'm just driving in ignorant bliss!

Had a s lake trip thisp morning and..... yes! A return trip to the airport seconds after drop off! It was as wonderful as I imagined it would be! Just 2 trips today and I'm over $115.00!!!

Have a swell day!

Missy, I moved to Reno 8 months ago and I've been ubering here 3 months. I knew nothing about Reno when I started. Learned by making lots of mistakes. I know even less about SLT and its a cake walk!

All you have is housing along the shore off 50 and "cabins" in the hills on the other side of 50. Most all the fares are going to the big casinos up 50 or restaurants/bars off 50. 50, 50, 50! Your navigator has the details. Its a breeze working SLT! Give it a shot next time, especially if surging! If you can handle 431, which impresses this big coward, you handle SLT all day long!

I had a drop in SLT from RNO a while back. After midnight and a 7x surge! But I was tired and knew I had an hour drive home... went off line and headed home. Regret it still!

Well I scored a quick $116 with 2 rides and 2 hours 25 minutes, of work today. Went to Chinese buffet for lunch, headed home and had a nice snooze! Thinking of heading back out to make a lil more now...

See y'all!

Hey Ed, welcome! I hear good things about Lyft on this board. Higher fares and tips thru the ap! But the drivers I know in town who use both platforms say Lyft rides are few far apart. One guy told me he logged on to Lyft for 2 days without a request!

But I say go for it! No downside to trying.

I confirmed the new FIFO RNO staging area is for real! I checked it out today. Its on Vassar east of Terminal. Rideshare sign and fencing are up but the program is not turned on yet. Unsure when it kicks in. Saw a couple poor guys parked there already. While us guys posted up near RNO got all the rides.

wow, two days no ride that's crazy. I don't want to go back to manufacturing so I guess I will try. I had no idea they were changing the staging area at the airport, thanks for heads up!!!
