What's the price of driving into the scene of a shooting? Lyft says $5.

There's no Hazzard pay for cab drivers.
I can only imagine the conversation I'd have had with Eddie Tutungien, the tycoon who leased me cabs for roughly 2 years.
"Hey Eddie, I was trapped by cops for almost an hour at the scene of a shooting. Can I get an hour prorated off my waybill"
"Fiddy...there better not be any BULLET HOLES in my TAXI. If I find a BULLET HOLE I'm taking it out of your SECURITY DEPOSIT...".

“Jalivay, 42, a writer and aspiring filmmaker from West Philadelphia, drives part-time for Lyft.“
— In fewer words, she’s a full-time Lyft driver with no future.

“She’d barely slept. She was crying. ‘I guess this is what PTSD looks like,’ she said, her voice shaking.“

— What does she expect Lyft to do, buy her a nicer home in nicer neighborhood?

What a scumbag

So if i blow a tire...

"Whatever it is NO!" boss tells me as i walk in the office

"I was late coming back, blew a tire" i explain.

"did you change it yourself or call for roadside assistance?" he asks

"I did it myself" I say. I hand him my trip receipt

"Late fee is gone, We'll pro-rate you an hour, you changed the tire yourself so there's a $10.00 credit for not making us drag out a service truck...

"$6.00 late fee is gone,
$10.00 tire change credit
$14.60 in pro rate for losing an hour, with only one hour left let's just call it two as there's no point in going back out

"What about the cost of the tire?" i ask

"meh It's not your fault... total is $30.60 credit towards your next shift, now get the $)*% out of my office, there's a line"

"Thanks $(($hole"

"Up yours to buddy"

I trash a tire on a company car, bring the car back late and get half my daily rental refunded... True story!

I got a pay gate, so I could not read the article.

That sounds like the Managers at the two largest suburban cab companies, here.

For most of the time that I was a cab company official, we did not have any company owned rental cabs. We had some fleet owners, but we did not often own any cabs.

Eddie got his comeuppance. So many drivers complained to city hackney police about illegal overcharges, the state heard about it. The state blew the whistle to the Feds.
The IRS actually placed a DESK AND PHONE LINE inside the garage at 74 Kilmarnock St. The IRS put a freeze on Eddie buying or selling medallions. They began to sieze his assets.
Last I heard Eddie got sentenced to 18 months in Club Fed.

Now,.all this could have been avoided. Eddie was a Jordanian born Armenian. He didn't think the law applied to him.
Want to jump in a cab right this second? $10 extra. Want to buy a longer shift? $10 per hour extra. Want a 2018 Prius? $10 extra. All these prices are ABOVE the city police approved bumps for these condititions.
Eddie's nephews ran the place like good thugs.
I'm one of the few guys who pulled my security deposit out...TWICE in 20 years.
They argued. They threatened.
I left the garage in 2001 and have never set foot in it again.

Eddie owned...600 Boston taxi medallions. A sedan service which he RANDOMLY assigned $100,000 licenses to if you wanted to radio up with him as an owner operator.
5 or so suburban cab companies. Enough real estate in Boston's Fenway neighborhood to be a non liquid billionaire. And more.
Classic example of someone who could not ever be rich enough.

What the hell is the point of this story ? Is Lyft supposed to pay her for something ? No. Ridiculous.
Umm, I think she is complaining about having to drive in the ghettos and she wants compensation. The measly $5 given aint cutting it. Not sure why they even gave her five dollars in the first place.

She lives in West Philly, but this happened in South Philly. I'm going to guess both are ghetto areas.
