I took a guy to a Casino on a slow night and he asked me to wait for him, so I did. About 1 hour later I took him back to his place. In the dark of the night he handed me a few bills as a tip. I pointed out to him that each bill was $100 and that he probably thought that each bill was a $1. He told me: "Yeah, I know, I just won a few thousand $$ at the casino and since you took me there that is your cut!"

That's what I like to hear. All the negativity you see on Uber people you'd have to have good one experience driving with Uber. :smiles:

Actually I have had lots of good experiences driving people around, that is why I keep driving because it's fun. But one negative aspect is that Uber has lowered rates to the point where I lose money on regular rides. I mostly drive Surges only nowadays. The real and known negative aspects of Uber, and there are MANY, cannot be ignored or discounted.

Agreed. On the whole, it's not a bad gig. I've had some great conversations, a few adventures and I haven't set my alarm clock in over a year. It's just tough to make a living doing it. That's the trade off. If everyone could write their own schedule, accept only the business they want and make good money then we'd have 100 times more drivers on the road. As it stands, it only works ( barely ) for certain people in specific situations. Biggest tip? Get a real job. Biggest monetary tip? $40. Not an award winner but I only took the guy 3 miles.

I got $50 bucks from a famous SF 49er's qb with a "young" last name. 2 days later drove a current Cardinal's receiver with a last name that could be a first name and he gave me a whopping $0. It's no wonder his rating was only 4.5. Btw, had two drop offs at the airport this am and got a handshake from my pax as I watched the driver dropping off in front of me get handed a tip. Next ride the father pulled out his wallet and his mellenial son told him he didn't have to tip. Frustrating!

On New years Eve I picked up a rider at a Blue Martini in Florida. Dropped her off at her place, and as I was backing out of her driveway I saw her fumbling in her purse like she was looking for a tip. So I stopped, thinking she was going to give me something. She removed her hand and she had her keys. But my hesitation to leave paid off. She asked me if I wanted to come inside.

Best tip I ever got.

54 rides so far and 5 tips. $10 the best...3 five dollar tips and a 3 dollar tip. And the breakdown on tippers. .over 40 something...4/5 tips...millenials are batting about 1/35 on tips. So props to the one college educated young lady who gave me a fiver.

Please rate all airport non tippers the 1 star they deserve.

Over 1800 rides. My rating has never dropped below 4.90. I do multiple 20+ mile rides a day. At least 2-5 airport pickups or dropoffs. My biggest tip has been a whopping $20. And that was for a 7 mile ride. Los Angeles has pathetic tippers. I can easily to an entire month without one single tip. i have tons of 5 star comments and always hold a great conversation with almost all of my pax. I have a brand new car that is always clean and I even stock it up with waters on occasion. It's really upsetting.

Not the most, but the best tip I ever had was from a very talkative woman who got a ride with her adult daughter. Woman told me she had been a hooker and a herion addict but was clean and sober now. I could tell that adult daughter just is resigned to hear this stuff rolled out into public by her mother. Anyway, at drop off, mother/herion addict/hooker insists on giving me a $5 tip over the objection of daughter who was saying that the "tip was built in" or words to that effect. Mom made clear that she had better manners than that.

I picked up a very drunk woman at a house party in North Scottsdale. She could barely remember her home address and gave me very vague directions to her home but she kept repeating that she was gonna give me a F**k wad of money if I helped her find her home. I happen to know the area quite well and it only took me an extra 5 minutes to find her home. Of course she got off the car and wished me good night.....NO TIP!

I just transferred here from Florida. Almost every ride in Florida had a tip. About 80% in the area I worked.

It's about 10% here in Phoenix.

Sucks.

After a 48-state run, I can confidently say that the CA/AZ/NV/NM corner of the map is the gutter of the country.

Well, for drivering NV might have its perks, but the area is still a dump.

Of course Florida was nicer...EVERYWHERE is nicer, with the possible exception of NJ and parts of NYC.

Oh well at least CA isnt addicted to HID hibeams in stock halogen reflectors like AZ is...

I can't recall my best but I did recently receive a
$20 tip for 3 miles!

If someone asks you to stop at the ATM for your tip do it! Tips happen and are rare with Uber. I do get tips with Lyft but a higher amount with Uber.
