What would you do?

I get a Lyft ping. The app says 35+ min. As I navigate to the pickup I call the rider to see where he's going. He mumbles the name of a bakery. I ask what town and he says "downtown". I say the name the city where we are and he says "yes". I'm suspicious as I head to the pickup.

I arrive and greet the rider. He seems a bit tired and grumpy. I'm expecting the destination to be outside my service area. If it is I'm going to cancel.

I start the trip and the destination isn't the city we were in but another city in my service area, not the direction I'd prefer to go, but I'll take it.

So now I confirm the destination city with the rider. I say the name and he says "yes". I laugh and say you don't know the difference between [the city where we are] and [the city where he's going]. Obviously he knows where he's going, HE'S THE ONE THAT PUT THE ADDRESS IN THE APP. I'm not happy this guy is being evasive/dishonest.

What would you do at that point? After some folks comment I'll post how it went from there.

yikes, why would you say that to a pax? Any pax wouldn't be happy with that 'laugh' comment. And when you kinda knew he was in a 'mood'. Gotta read your pax or else.....

I would have kindly explained that he would need to order another ride. As I had asked him for destination prior to this and he told me an evasive incorrect location... Maybe if he were drink that would be ok... He's not.. thus he gets curb stomped.and 1 🌟, I don't need the drama...

wut? You kick him out and then drive off waiting for him to cancel? No way, nobody is that mean. You are a closeted nice guy who all pax love. And if you were in calif the pax could mark you as a 'favorite' so you can be rematched. Maybe you need to move?
Pair? the porno group is down the stairs next to the leaky toilet pipe.

Someone else could have ordered the ride for him and in that case pax may not know where dest actually is. Why does it matter? Take pax where app says to go.

I totally agree. I would never treat a normal customer like that. I was aware of that at the time, and after. But I felt like this guy was being underhanded so I felt like I could call him on it.

Yes, there was a part of me that felt like canceling with the explanation that "you don't even know where you want to go".

OK, so here's the rest of the story.

The guy seemed grumpy and tired the whole way, but near the end of the ride started making conversation. I dropped him off and he seemed appreciative and content.

I figured I would give it 15 minutes and if he didn't give me a tip I would one * him for his odd behavior.

I immediately caught another ride, a short one this time.

As soon as I dropped off this rider I quickly checked to see if the previous one had given me a tip. Sure enough he had so I let him go through at 5 *.

I guess in the end he knew the drill, that if he had told me the destination maybe I would have canceled, and he was a little dishonest just like we drivers are sometimes to work things to our advantage. I've been that guy.
