That's interesting. In 1977 I drove a taxi in L.A. the meter was .80 per mile, and $10 an hour ( but no time charge above 12mph). With that meter I would gross about $60-$70 per 10 hour shift. I made about $10 - $15 in tips ( about what I'm making now, come to think of it, people tip a lot less today ). But, the lease was $30 and gas was about $7 or 8 bucks.
