now that Uber is required to have the same licences etc as taxis then its only fair that uber drivers can now use the taxi stands ... would be good more cash jobs and bypass Uber

You operate your Uber car under a full taxi service license?

Having a Taxi DA means nothing, other than you are permitted to drive a licensed taxi operating under a taxi service license.

My understanding of the situation is that taxi companies are paying annual fees for the use of ranks. Is this correct??

There isn't enough room for taxis, never mind uber. This will never happen. How will parking inspectors make their quota.

Taxi hangs onto those ranks like a boy on prom night wants ass in his mouth. Those ranks are all the Taxi has...

Geez! Would that put the taxis in a tail spin?

I thought about being a cab driver years ago but never did it as they get robbed for the cash !

Uber and ridesharing is much safer without the worry of cash!

As for Taxi ranks let them have them, I do 4 to 5 jobs and see the same sad Taxi drivers in Ann St having moved perhaps a few hundred meters, I kinda wonder how they make money, the crazy Taxi prices make sense I suppose

I
Those ranks are all that’s preventing Taxi from going bust!
I kind of think it’s helping them go bust, if the cabs could just pick up n drop off I’m sure they would make more money then sitting in a huge que for hours.

I’m in Townsville and recently found a local Facebook group for taxi drivers. Basically they are trying to gather as much info as possible to assist them in getting rid of Uber. They take rego of every Uber they see and post it up. They are also on the hunt for any Uber doing anything wrong (they don’t get much dirt). Like for example, pulling up in a taxi rank. They advise other taxi drivers to take a photo of the offending Uber vehicle and to also try and get some taxi rank signage in the photo. They then take this to DOT I believe.

Also considering that they look for opportunities to cause an accident with an Uber where they think the Uber would be deemed to be in the wrong, I wouldn’t want to upset them anymore than they already are. It’s bad enough that I drive past 20,30 or 40 taxis waiting in a barely moving line in the city on a Friday and Saturday night to pick up a fair before I pull up, pick up my pax and drive away in a matter of 1-5 minutes and then come back and drive past the same taxis and do it all again.

I do the same whenever I cruise up George Street opposite the Treasury Casino in BNE. The taxis are lined up 20 deep and all the sooties are outside puffing on durries. When I do another loop the same taxis are there. Poor dears.

I recently got hammered at the Kippa -Ring rank. I was dropping off a mate, NOT an Uber fare and this DOH-head taxi driver came up and started abusing me for doing an illegal drop off on a taxi rank. He wouldn't let me explain that the bloke that hopped out was a mate. If it went to a court of law, all I would have to do was show is my phone records. That would shoot him down in flames.

Just take photo's of all the taxi's parked illegally. There is plenty to choose from. Or take photo of the taxi's dropping off pax in the uber dropoff at GCAirport. Wouldn't worry too much, their demise is near.

Unfortunately both sides who use their time to report and take photos should be learning new skills to get a better job. This isn't a career that you can say will be around for the next generation. This will be like the old blacksmith worker looking for a horse shoe to repair.

Courses cost around $15 plus like on Udemy and similar. If you don't want to learn anything that way to improve your market value, then listen to audio books in the car. Leave the simple people to squabble over the dwindling scraps while you exit to a better situation. Pays will drop, conditions will worsen. Dont be fooled by any small improvements Uber now ads which is still lower than what originally was.

For those who still don't get it:
$1-$3+$1=Minus$1
This is how these companies Tax/Uber work. Especially Uber and the simple desperate people fall for it.

Listen it Instyle on this guys don't use taxi rank's, bus stops, disabled zones, emergency zones, or any other zone. All it takes is a camera in a Taxi, Bus or a regular concerned citizen with your rego sent to DMR and BAM a fine is in the mail.

It is simple don't break the law and everything will be fine or should I say fineless :smiles:

As Uber is legal now and we are paying for new registrations etc governments and council is now obligated to ensure there are safe pickup and drop off points to ensure customer safety. This has nothing to do with uber. Taxi's have ranks and buses have their stops. They need to clarify this to uber drivers as it is their responsibility.

I agree, Uberdar, but I doubt that Uber will instigate any action.

It's not really up to uber. This is the responsibility of the government. They claim to care about rider safety yet I see them doing nothing to ensure this.

uber app will accept any place legal or not as a pick up point and uber has no responsibility for any fines as the driver who is the holder of the driving licence should know the roads laws and regulations. So it goes same for dropping pax.
