There is to be an Uber log-off strike on Thursday 6 September 2018 from 6.00 am to 10.00 am (local time) in Australia, United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand.

This strike applies to Uber but not other rideshare services such as Ola, GoCatch and Shebah.

The issues giving rise to the strike in Australia are:

  1. Uber to stop using “upfront pricing” and revert to charging based on actual distance and time, with drivers notified of the destination before accepting the trip. (We don’t have upfront fares in Canberra.)
    .
  2. Uber to provide drivers with an option to opt-out of the UberPool service without penalties. Drivers who choose to take UberPool rides should should be paid the equivalent of UberX base rates plus at least 20% more as they are required to pick up multiple passengers over multiple stops. (We don’t have UberPool in Canberra.)
  3. Uber to increase uberX base rates by at least 15%.

I read in US and UK they do mass log offs to trigger surge pricing then drivers log back when its in place. Uber and drivers earn more but passengers pay more.
