Uber / Lyft App GPS issues

Last night was super busy in DT Naperville. There were few events in DT and lots of people on the streets. Despite all the busyness and getting multiple pings I wasted a lot of time making some Newb mistakes and ended up not making what I should have. Soon after I get there I get a 1.2X UberX request. Its just a street location (e.g.: 1920-1980 Chester Ave). So I drive to the Pin and call the person. Now this girl was super drunk and could barely give her coordinates but sent me 2 miles away in traffic to a different point. I go to this place and call her. No show. Intending to cancel I look at the App it said I should drive closer to the rider pointing me to the original location. Now i drive back in traffic to the original location. Wait for the App to charge for wait time and then cancel out. Now the same thing happened to me 4 times over on one night - 3 times on Uber and once on the Lyft app.

On Lyft app, I can't believe that the App pin sent me 3 miles away to a nowhere playground from Hollywood casino from where the ride request originated. In this case after speaking to the Pax and when I moved from the Pin location (to Hollywood casino) Lyft app automatically started the trip. Now this girl calls me again screaming how come the trip is started when you haven't picked us up. It was 4 am and I was damn tired. I told them its the App but i'll be happy to cancel the trip for them.
The whole experience bugged the hell out of me. Not sure how this was supposed to work. Does the App take their exact GPS location at the time of request and keeps tracking them as they move? What would you seniors do in such cases? Just drive to the Pin and cancel out after 5 minutes or go to where the Pax is actually located and help them out.

My Uber app keeps showing distances in metric so everything's two kilometers and meters and I have tried everything to get it back to standard

Wonder if you accidentally downloaded Uber App from a non-US App Store. Did you try deleting and re-download/install from the US App Store ? If this doesn't still fix it you might want to call CS (new feature within the App) and ask those blokes. I recently called them and my wait time was less than 2 mins. Not bad.

I think the extra effort in tracking someone really depends on the day and area you're in. I'll go extra on most suburban runs in the north burbs because they're usually a decent ride. If I'm running hot, I cancel. I can say though, for the most part, anybody I chase more than a mile or two doesn't pay off.

As far as being a newbie, don't feel bad. I was trolling on Lyft (very unusual for me) after the Jimmy Buffet concert. I was smack in the middle of 250% for a good 10 minutes and ready to lose my $hit because I wasn't getting ANYTHING! I was on a phone call shortly before things got hot and didn't realize I wasn't in driver mode :frown:. I'm still pissed at myself.

I hear you bro. The Lyft app is so Fffd up. It will go offline without giving you any hint or notice if you do not have it on top and open. Recently i was at the airport waiting for an hour keeping Lyft and Uber online and then I went to check messages on this forum for few minutes and I go back to check status to find Lyft had already kicked me off the driver mode. Then I just stayed on Uber n got a decent fare.

It's been a terrible week for GPS. I think they've tried to improve the handoff to Maps, but it's been aweful. Maps is handing back off to Uber before I arrive leaving me to deal with their crappy map that instead of a normal map is zoomed out too far and difficult to see details. Plus, it's been flipping to alternative routs before I even make the next suggested turn.

Yeah waze has done this to me a couple of times this week. It will give me alternative routes before I even turn.
