just read this today which is very interesting. Uber investors want to go public but Kalanick does not want to.http://flip.it/oiaxg

With its $50B valuation one of its main investors is also saying that all these valuations are fake http://money.cnn.com/2015/10/20/technology/bill-gurley-unicorns-wsjd/
And actually call it a bubble.
That's why the investors want IPO so that they can cash in before the bubble bursts and leave everyone else holding the bag.

I think you're spot on with this. Right now they can keep everything as the "Uber way" without any outside pressure. Right now Uber is walking a tightrope in the middle of a hurricane with all the regulatory, driver and other battles they are facing so why throw more gas on the storm and bring internal pressure into the mix.

I read an article that Uber will be investing $1B in china since they are not the #1 ride share company there. It's all about branding. How would you recover a $1B investment in ride sharing in china?

Exactly and we're basically funding that. The $50B valuation means nothing. The are doing it to capture the data of consumers of the 2nd biggest economy in the world. That data could be worth several $Billions again.

Exactly - that's how VC's work..... Pump it up, defend the money they invested, and cash out..... Not a bad gig if you can get it.......

Yup. Been through 3 startup companies and several VC's. It's all about how fast they can turn their money, and boy are they brutal. Let's just say it's more like the civilization type computer game for them but in real life.
