Three No's and you're out...

First, I want to say, thank you for letting me vent. After this bs, I felt like I lost my pace last night having to deal with this minor situation.

Last night, I get a ping to pick up "George" at Edwards Newport Beach 6. This theater is so nice, they've got a nice big driveway in the front for you to pick-up and drop off at. So I pull up and wait for a few minutes with my emergency flasher on, and then I'm think it's going to be a rider no show, so I moved my car to the curb, and txt the pax asking, "Please clarify pick-up location." Red flag #1

And the reply was they were at the theater. I'm parked less than 100 feet away at this point, so I tell George my emergency flasher are on so you can find the car at the curb. Red flag #2, three young boys running to my car. Generally, adults don't run.

The first thing out of their mouth was , "Do you have an OX?". And I asked what is an OX, they mean auxiliary cable. I do not carry one because I have SirusXM in my car (and besides, I don't want to listen to most of what is called music today), so I said, no, I don't have an ox cable and no you can't use one in my car. And there is a audible, "Woah" in my car.

Then recognizing I'm dealing with three kids, I ask if anyone is 18, and their jaws literally drop. I tell them there is a law which prohibits minors from using Uber without an adult. And one of the boys pipes up and says that he used Uber to go to his friends house that day. So another Uber driver screwed up this day, but not me - I've got mom radar.

I told them to get out of my car and call your parents, then cancelled the trip and marked it "fraudulent rider".

Good for you you made the right move,
I remember seeing in Uber's new terms of service that we are not allowed to pick up unescorted minors and minors are not allowed to have an Uber account it also stated that we are to report these incidences to uber, I would suggest you do so ASAP.

I can't find the section of the terms of service where I read that but I assure you that I did see it, do not let other drivers tell you differently, we are not allowed to pick up minors, picking up children with no adult accompany them is bad news,

Keep in mind that you still see drivers picking up at LAX and dropping off at LAX without LAX placard on car, they do not read the rules they don't care about the rules they just do what they think they're allowed to do I'm telling you, you can't pick up minors without adult accompany them..

I picked up 3 14 year olds once. One said it was his mom's account. Short ride from grocery store to 7-11. Did the ride but didn't feel right about it. Contacted Uber via the ap, explained the sitch and asked, "what is Uber's policy on unaccompanied minor riders?" Their response, "Hi KC,
Thanks for reaching out about this.
As an independent contractor, questions such as this are left to your discretion.
You are certainly never required to start a trip with a passenger. If you completed a trip with a rider that you believe to be under an appropriate age and you'd like us to investigate further, feel free to let us know.
Hope this helps and please don't hesitate to reach out with additional questions."

Not too helpful! Despite the vague, it's up to me answer, I resolved to never carry a minor unless the adult account holder calls or text me first. I just don't want the responsibility.

That's just the canned response to the question of what you can or can't do in your car,

I've seen the same uber response from other posters on other sites.

Following-up today, here's my message details I provided under "My rider was unpleasant":

3 riders under 18 years of age attempted to start trip. "George" was the ride requestor who was also an unaccompanied minor disclosed he used Uber earlier that day. Please investigate fraudulent rider claim and deactivate account. Thank you.

I did NOT. The last time that I was in Southern California was 2011. Uber has not approved me to drive in Southern California, nor have I applied to Uber for approval to drive there.
:smiles: that's funny I bet you didn't think of what might happen when you chose your "posting name" lol
