Good, keep it out of this side of the world.
I remember SARS. I spent most of my day visiting research labs in the hospitals and University labs and for almost a good six months I had to do most of work by phone, email and courier. Bloody pain in the ass. The interesting thing about this virus is that people infected in Thailand had no contact with any of the open air markets where the ducks and pigs are. I think we got a problem with this new virus and or hopefully not as lethal as SARS. Strangely enough I was in Thailand just 2 months ago. Amazing how many people where breathing masks.

The flu is far worse then the coronavirus.
Not so sure about that, I saw these first reports a few weeks back and thought maybe just a nasty flu. In fact I went and got my flu shot and the pharmacist said that he thought this might be new. The flu shot won't protect you from this virus but it will lessen the severity of you pick it up from someone you're driving in your car.

I trust the guys at the CDC and WHO. Everything is going to be just fine.
I know those guys and yes they're very competent, its' the politicians I don't trust. My bigger worry in in Britain where they've been cutting the NHS the last few years. My cousin is a retired nurse and she says the hospitals are a complete mess. They're short 45 K nurses and they've lost 14 K doctors.

Yep, that what happens when you socialize health care. Same problem here in Canada.

We have our own crisis on the horizon on this side of the pond. Thanks to decades of socialist style governing, the plague may make a return...
When you allow the housing stock to be converted into AirBnB and STA's you push out working people who end up on the streets or living in their cars. There isn't one state in the U.S. where you can now rent any accommodation making minimum wage. Cheery thought!

Most of homelessness is intertwined with addiction and mental health issues. Government policies are failing these people.

Also, having open borders, sanctuary cities, and not enforcing immigration laws is not helping the issue either.

Within China 200 new cases of the Corona Virus reported within the last 72 hours and now fast spreading to South Korea, Japan and Thailand. Hundreds of millions of Chinese on the move today and tomorrow to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

“This could be the beginning of a disaster.”

Not sure I like this new development. When scientists get worried it is not reassuring. If and when cases crop up in San Francisco I think we'll have a much bigger disaster than SARS.

Why do so many if these viruses seem to originate in China? Population density? Lack of controls in the food system? Lack of govt response?

Population density for the most part. The sanitation we take for granted here is nothing compared to the problems throughout China. Simply too much pressure on the livestock and the crowded conditions people live under.

Oh damn it. Just quoted the above from several hours ago and I just checked my bulletins and holy Sh_t. China confirms human-to-human transmission of new coronavirus now in Beijing and Shenzhen.
Get that disinfectant ready and wash your hands, frequently.
