Stop Going to the Airport

It's not our job. If it was we'd be able to pick up there.

Sitting in traffic on the Kennedy or through the unbelievably hellish construction at the Circle at these rates is a joke. Being dropped in nowhere land after the trip having to deadhead miles to get a new ping (Rosemont is flooded constantly) only adds insult to injury. It's a loss to do these trips with surge below 2.0x.

Besides, there's plenty of cabs and livery plates who use ORD and MDW as their bread and butter. Stop enabling Uber free reign over a place they shouldn't even be allowed to drop off. The more Uber gets what it wants the closer we get to the truly basement rates other cities are getting.

If it's a high surge then fine, I'm not going to tell you to pass up good money to a make a point. But at base rates? Tell pax to get a cab.

I did. Whenever I saw luggage I rolled down the window and asked if they were going to the airport and told them no.

One was request from the Gold Coast. He was all "Well thanks alot dewd". I told him when you want to pay a fair rate I'd be glad to take you. Another in Uptown asked "Well what are we supposed to do?". I told them to call Uber Taxi, a regular taxi or try another driver because I'm not a slave and my car is not a @@@@@. You have alot of choices.

Now if they at least tipped it would be another story. I'd also be happy to drop them at the Orange or Blue line but not after they're already pissed that they're not getting a ride to the airport for nearly 1/2 the price of a cab and we can't pick anyone up there.

Do you actually say it like this? Ever get pissed customers or people who threaten to report you?
Yes I did say it like that after about 15 of those airport trips. One said she was going to report me to Lyft and I never heard a word from them.

Many of those riders have told me some drivers will refuse them and other drivers are happy as hell (my guess is they live somewhere near the airport and are happy to score a ride back that way). Most of those airport riders are anticipating a refusal.

I just tell them use UberTaxi or Black. Uber can't get up my ass for recommending another one of their services. Never had Lyft airport runs.

That guy in Uptown asking what else he's supposed to do is rich. Like nobody got to the airport before Uber started offering it at joke prices. That guy is destined for Blue Line.

Just for the record and not that it matters but it was a female in Uptown. I did see ALOT of luggage and at least one other person and a kid. Those people in Uptown are either dirt poor, felons, drug addicts there only for the nearby abundance of methadone clinics and social services or if they are "rich" they are "hipsters" that only live there to live in a home twice the size they couldn't afford in a better area. The guy in the Gold Coast was rich or a wannabe. I not only have financial and business reasons for refusing thir rides to the airport, but moral as well.

And lemme guess....no tip!?
And how long did it take you to get there? Were you online to hopefully pick-up a rider back to the city from that glorious area? Once I stopped there to take advantage of the cheaper gas before heading back and there were 2 pit-bulls tied to the pole outside the door of the station. Nevermind they were out of water and the credit card machine was broke.

And watch your speed on that basically 4 lane highway leading in/out of Midway where the speed limit is what? 35? It was a Saturday morning with no traffic at all and one of those cameras flashed at me from behind. I couldn't have hit more than 40mph and I know that. I got the speed "warning" in the mail. The next one will be a fine. But I'm never going out there again. Ever.

It took me around 1.5 hours round trip.. Less than minimum wage. Oh and I still have expenses such as gas and depreciation. Lovely.

I kept the app open until I hit I-55. I always turn off the app while on a highway.

Correct. 1.5 hours round trip. The very last rider I took out there was from the Wicker Park or Bucktown area about 3pm. With traffic it took about an hour to go 13 miles and 1/2 hour to get back. Never went to Midway again.

If Uber gave a @@@@ about driver concerns, here's what would happen...

Riders would be required to input their destination BEFORE they're allowed to request a trip....and anything to the airport or suburbs would require an additional charge.

Correct. I think a $15 airport surcharge would be fair and I said that for a good year. But again, alot of the riders are fully aware they may be refused a ride to the airport and many are in defense mode before you arrive to pick them up. All they have to do is throw a $10 bill on the seat and maybe tip afterwards once in a while for that door-to-door efficient service in a clean car and they wouldn't have to worry about "What am I gonna do now?" when refused.

To all the newbies out there, a word is enough for the wise. Chicago airport runs at no reasonable surge is not worth it!! #spreadtheword
And it's not just the $ end of it. In my minimal O'hare runs I've seen not 1 but 2 UberBlack SUV's sitting on the side of that drive smashed up. I think the speed limit reduces to 35mph but you'd never know it. You see those obvious airport shuttle buses and taxi's still going 55 flipping in/out of lanes like they were still on the freeway.

I see your point about the traffic.

I usually get a ride from the airport. I get off at River Road and either go south towards home, or north to the casino.
I really have good luck getting rides after driving to the airport(s) or the suburbs.
I'll admit I was in Skokie Sunday morning around 5am and just drove home. I turned the phone back on and wham!
Some kid needs to go to 2200 S Michigan to pick up a few friends and then over a few miles to the party for 25.50

Bet you guys enjoyed the back up on the E-way Monday morning thanks to the alleged shooting.
I had an O'hare trip and escaped the closure by getting off at Kimball then following surface streets to River Road.
