Phony surge at BNA?

Around 5:00 today, a $5 surge was advertised at the airport. I drove to the waiting lot, expecting a quick ping. But no! The app said "6 to 10 Uber drivers are in the queue ahead of you."

Fine. I can wait a few minutes.

But no! Ten minutes later, it gave the same message: "6 to 10 Uber drivers are in the queue ahead of you."

Is this a fake surge? Why does it do this? Meanwhile, a real surge was happening around Opryland, which I missed. :i'm mad:

I suspect the algo is trying to encourage drivers to stay in the airport queue in anticipation of flights coming in soon, and a sudden spike in demand.

Don't be too disgruntled; by staying in the queue you are giving your car and yourself a rest.
