Hello.
I am new to Uber select platform. I’m having a hard time finding my money making momentum. It seems Uber select has less business in Chicago then I read about in other cities.
The pay is good but there’s no consistency with Passanger pings.
Can anyone help me with busy times and maybe the best time to drive.
I’ve been driving mostly afternoons and I feel offended becauSe I’m making half of what I would make with UberX. I mean I’m not driving around like a maniac so that’s a plus.
I won’t drive my 2017 tlx in UberX (came to my mind once or twice in a night). Thank you in advance

First just wanna say don’t go to the Chicago local forum, those guys will tear you apart and complain about the money.

But I’d say select is probably most busy in the evenings downtown, and then also for rush hours to/from Airport and perhaps Rosemont.

I’ve taken quite a bit of rides on Lyft Premier / Uber Select (I usually prefer the drivers who have nicer cars as they’re more careful drivers - though I drive X/Lyft myself, my cars old).

I do hear Select is just very hit/miss and there’s not much rhythm to it, which sucks if you’re exclusive to Select :\. My only other idea would be maybe to sign up for Lyft and see if you can get approved for their premium tier as well to have one other option

I’m in a smaller market, small towns and suburban. But there is a lot of money here

We only have select, XL and X. I have an XL but would starve if I did XL only. To stay busy I have to do X too

Ive talked to select drivers here and most will say the same thing. If they did select only, they would starve

The guys that seem the happiest are those that have 6 passenger select cars so they can do select and Xl.

Based on what I see here, I don’t think you can make it as select only, you will have to do some X rides

when it comes time to replace my car I’ll be looking for something that can do all three ride types; select, xl and x

You don’t want to waste a tesla on Uber tbh. Unless that’s the reason you bought the car for.

Do research on how to behave as a Select driver by watching how limo drivers are trained. Pax expectation for Select/Lux drivers is that you have more experience than regular Ubers. You are also more civilized and professional in appearance than your UberX counterparts.

With that said, you have to work bar close and you have to work downtown to make it as a luxury car driver. There is no way around it. The only way to make people pay double for a ride is to get them drunk.

You’ll sit for hours waiting for a ping on select, here in Florida you’ll be lucky to get 2 pings in 6 hours. Select isn’t worth, stick with the cheap SOBs using x.

I am a Select driver, and I've just spent the past day and a half without a ping. The key is you have to be able to occupy your downtime and not have an expectation of making a certain amount of money. Maybe you wait for rides at your home, or go to the coffee shop and pull out your laptop, or go to the library and study. You cannot rely on Select as your primary source of income. There are places I can go and improve my request numbers, but I refuse to just sit in my car and do nothing while waiting for a ride.

I do lyft lux only, every once in a while I'll take a base lyft fare. I also drive as a limo driver, my car has airport limo sticker on it, but do a lot of on demand taxi work at local hotels and casinos. If you own your own vehicle and it meets the requirements for livery service in your area, check and see how much it will take to add an "extra fishing pole" to your work. When I started doing this, 2 years ago, did mostly lyft base and some lyft lux ( premium ), handed out my business cards to the other limo drivers. They asked if I had commercial livery insurance and airport credentials, which I did, and they started throwing me some of their over booked rides. Now I only get a few lyft lux rides, but mostly private hire rides ( taxi or limo ) at $2.90 mile. I do pay "commissions", I throw $5 tips to the door man, desk clerks, valets that hand out my cards.
