Michigan Legislation in the works

The Michigan House Energy & Technology Committee is scheduled to meet at 10:30 AM this coming Thursday, November 13 in Room 327 of the House Office Building to discuss establishing regulations for ride share companies (TNCs). Note that no legislation has been introduced to date. The meeting is solely for discussion pending introduction of future legislation.

Given that we're in the lame duck weeks of the 2013-2014 session, it's unlikely that any legislation will be passed this year in both the House and Senate due to Michigan's constitutional restrictions and House & Senate rules designed to prevent “fast-tracking” bills. More likely, this legislation will see action in 2015.

The proposed bills could both benefit and harm drivers. Licensing, increased regulation, insurance ambiguity, tax issues, and the controversy over surge pricing may be addressed.
