Independent contractor??

I am a Uber driver in Florida, I did one pick up on Friday, and went a week and a half without a pickup or didn't log in. So I got a email from Uber stating if I don't pickup a customer by end of week my account will be deactivated. My question is we are considered as independent contractors, and are told we can work on our own schedule, so how can my account be deactivated??

Because they can.

Seriously, both parties have the right to terminate the agreement at any time.
