I was a principal computer systems engineer in charge of Consumer Hardware for the 17th largest corporation in the United States.

We spent a lot of money with our vendors. They all wanted to come in and talk to the individual engineers.

I wondered what can we get for us out of this arrangement?

I told the vendors that the only time my Engineers are available was at lunch they're pretty damn busy the rest of the day. You can do a "lunch and learn" program.

You bring chicken and salid for 30 from Pat and Mike's I guarantee an audience.

I learned all the best restaurants that delivered to corporate offices. No pizza allowed.

We spent some real money with these vendors. Microsoft $13 million.
Intel $45 million.... lots more from software to switch boxes.

For 12 years I fed 30 engineers real nice lunchs 3 times a week for free.

Ya just gotta ask 😎

Hey, ConnectPro took 30 engineers to Ruth Chris Steak House's Friday Lunch twice a year.

I worked those vendors hard.

People liked me, my bosses were amazed at the strings I could pull.

I did work as a full time engineer 12 hours a day.

But I made sure we had some fun.

Can you get bear a job as an engineer? Bear does not need any pay, but will only work from 12-1pm on lunch and learn days :ninja:
It’s like bear has background in my world.

while we don’t get 3x a week lunch and such, we do get lunches from places like Toast, Spruce, original Joe’s (Daly city), etc.

and a crazy amount of alcohol.

Sigh
Reminds me of Halliburton.

Vendors bought us lunch 6 days a week.

Often had donuts with our gourmet coffee too.

And if we worked late
We expense account paid for supper also.

Other companies would even pay bar tabs.

The good ol days is what I heard.

my company was like that, popped off champagne bottles just because.

now the benefits have been drastically cut down (though still good) but for the old timers, the ones who’ve been with the company for 20-30 years.

they always reminisce about the good ol’ days.

Oh lord.
You have NO IDEA.

NO ONE OUTDID THE OILFIELD IN THE LATE 70'S !

CORPORATE JETS.
COMPANY CARS.
COMPANY BOATS.
PARTY YACHTS
HOUSEBOATS
HUNTING CAMPS

I ONCE GOT A HELICOPTER SPEEDING TICKET TOWING THE COMPANY BBQ TO PLACE POOLSIDE AT THE COMPANY PARTY HOUSE

WE BLEW MONEY FREELY THEN !

WONDERFUL TIMES !

( SO REMEMBER . . . ITS NOT JUST GAS YOU ARE PAYING FOR AT THE GAS PUMPS . . .LOL !)

I was making enough to give a Silver Eagle 1oz silver coin every year to my team members, and support staff.

I would toss it to them, and say here's a buck for all your help this year.

Some used them to count the years they were at Cardinal Health.

The VP of R&D "expenced" a $4000 Espresso Machine.

We came in on a Sunday when Engineering was empty, and did a professional installation job in our break room.

Holes in the counter, installed a 2 stage filtered water line.
Bolted the damn thing down.

It looked good.

We expenced the coffee as office supplies.

It became famous. Management would sneak up the back stairs to grab a cup.

6 years later BD bought our division, and ripped it out.

The beginning of the end.

We did have some fun😎

American Express told me I was terminated.

I was told to order products from Intel.
I worked with these people years and years.

I get a call from Intel, my Amex card bounced.

It's un limited, I give them a call.
They were not nice.

They told me I was terminated 2 weeks ago and shouldn't have that card.

I go to my boss...WTF?

He goes to his VP....WTF?

VP doesn't know either.
He calls HR.......WTF?

Turns out BP was laying off 1700 and moving the jobs to Mexico.

They pulled the trigger on a few of us too fast.

Worse than an emal.

Mc Dermott pulled up its entire operations and moved South. Out of the Country.

Damn. They just routed a Hostile takeover effort from Subsea SA7 of Europe.

Looks like C.B.I. & MCDERMOTT MERGED.
( damn)

I used to work for Chicago Bridge & Iron also in the plants. They are a patent holder to 1 of 2 designs used in refinery Cat Crackers.

( McDermott stock price $0.13 a share. Times are tough. . . )

Their yard is where i built Shell Ursa, Mars, Ram Powell, Texaco Petronius . . . and many other large projects.

America is Permanently LOSING ITS ABILITY

TO DO. . . ANYTHING !

Mc Dermott filed for Bankruptcy in Jan. ?

There is a private mint that makes dollar bill sizes presentation pieces out of 4oz .999 silver. Very nice and not as expensive as you would guess.

The boss who hired me started his own business.

We had a party at Carl Strouss Brewery to see him off.

I presented him with a beautiful silver million dollar bill, in an airtight case.
That case came in a blue velvet box.

His wife zoomed in on that big time. She looked it over, they are wonderful work, and 4oz does weigh a lot in the hand.

She thanked me, and slipped it into her purse, never to be seen again at that party.😃

Profit sharing dissapeared.

They tried to get airline miles back from engineers.
Didn't work, we were not employed by them when we earned the miles.
