Help with Breakdown Cover

Dear Uber Drivers,

I'm looking to get a Breakdown Cover for peace of mind.

Can someone tell me if it is possible to get Personal Cover for Personal use?

Or do we have to get a Specialist Taxi Breakdown Cover regardless?

If there are any good companies offering good covers, let me know.

As far as I can remember, RAC requires a specific policy for business use/private hire, whereas the AA does not.

They usually ask you to pay by direct card, or they store your card details so they will automatically renew your policy every year, unless you cancel - and you'll only find out when they've renewed after they've taken your money and you receive details in the post (unless you're on top of it).

Which is why whenever you see them sitting outside supermarkets, motorway service stations, etc., enticing you to join up with special first year offers, they never accept cash, and they want your bank or credit details, so when they automatically renew a year later, they will charge you full whack, in the hope that you'll forget a year later.

At least by arranging breakdown with your insurer, you will know you're covered depending on your what use your car is insured for.

Best is as someone suggested to talk to ur insurer as AA or RAC are bit expensive with limited callouts.

I have with my insurers unlimited callout, home start and tow to garage of my choice.

I use breakdown cover where they send out a local recovery firm.

Then it's in the local firms best interest not to kick up a fuss about the PH roundels.

A £5 note offered when the recovery guy starts to look at your minicab often helps him ignore the roundels:rolleyes:

Auto Aid & GEM recovery are two good firms but they are pay up front & reclaim via a short form.
Money refunded within 3 to 5 days

Also Nationwide Flex Plus acct gives recovery etc with their packaged bank account. They also use local recovery firms

That's the thing.

Black Cab work hasn't really been badly affected.

The Kipper was a bit longer according to friends.

Though I doubt the lack of work is much to do with Uber.

Can you honestly say your average X punter decided to use X over a BlackCab.

Let's be honest.

The only Cabbies that have been affected are the ones that are used to getting their money in as short a time as possible and are living beyond reasonable means, which means when they can't make an easy £1200 or so a week they are on struggle street as they have Financied themselves up to the back teeth with a Brand New Cab, new car for the missus and a nice house in Hornchurch or leafy Upminster and now have to chase it.

That doesn't apply to any Cabby I know, most all still live in the House they did prior to the KoL.

They were also mostly PH drivers beforehand.

As soon as you have to chase money stress starts to build and you see any competition as steeling the food out your kids mouth.

Add in some militant drivers intent on empire building with an association or union (which they will be in charge of obviously) and what do you get?

The problems there are in the Taxi trade are often caused by the actions of those in that trade.

Do you blame the individual driver who is out there working and reading their rhetoric?

Or do you blame the people behind the scenes that have been agitating things?

Look at the GMB.

One of the senior blokes feels he has lost money and business because of Uber and is misusing the GMB to fight his battle.

You need to look at people's true intentions.
