Have you ever kept an expensive item left behind by a PITA passenger?

Had a real pain in the ass customer Monday. Had a pick up request during a decent surge at the casino five minutes and accepted it since I usually have decent luck with casino passengers and tips. When I was two minutes away I get a cancel and then a few seconds later another request from the same passenger but was during a non-surge so I think she figured out there wasn't a surge and cancelled and requested a ride again and that should have been enough of a tip off to just ignore the ping.

Was a couple with a huge shopping bag and they were real pains. Took them to a very nice suburb 25 minutes away where it is hard to find pick ups on a weds night so had to dead head back towards my place. They were both pretty drunk so I was surprised they were smart enough to figure out to cancel an uber during a surge and re-request it unless they were drunk and accidentally cancelled the ride the first time.

The husband asked me to try to find a public bathroom and had to pee really bad and said I told him to put the extra stop in the app. He wasn't sure where the nearest public bathroom was and if I could just pull over when I found one he was ok being charged for the wait time and they would take care of me. Seeing it was a casino pickup where I usually have good luck and the area I was going to I figure it may be a good tip and stopped at a McDonalds and his wife waited in the car and he was in there for five minutes (this is during a non-surge remember). He was in there five minutes and I would have just ended the ride if it wasn't for his wife still being in the car. He comes out carrying a huge soda, I thought he was going in to just pee. He drinks the soda in my car without asking and I didn't say anything since it was in a cup with a lid and he was using a straw. They were talking really loud during the whole ride and *****ing about all the money they lost at the casino.

I get to their house and apparently his idea of "taking care of me" was saying thanks for stopping at McDonalds and he appreciated it. They also left the glass with ice and about a third of the soda in the back carrier

I was pretty furious going through all that but gave them the benefit of the doubt hoping they would tip on the app but nothing as of yet. When I went to the back seat to get the cup when I got home I found out they had also left the bag. It was a Roomba (960 model that is listed for almost $600 at bed bath and beyond and Costco) along with a congratulations card with a note saying they were sorry they missed the wedding. No idea why they had it at the casino unless the people that gave it to them had dinner with them at the steak house.

In a situation like this would you report the lost item or just let it go and consider it a nice tip:) I'm surprised they haven't reported it lost yet unless they were so drunk they honestly forgot someone gave it to them or thought they left it at the casino and dont' remember taking it in the Uber.

If they would have tipped me, or even been pleasant and not asked me to stop so he could pee, I would have reported it found right away to Uber. Seeing this young couple can afford such a nice house and aren't tipping also makes me not feel too guilty either.

It could make for a great mothers day gift:)

Hmm, that's what they call in the trade an ethical dilemma. But not really. Despite their conduct, you kind of know what the right thing to do is but I would not go out of my way in any shape or form. Let them come to a location near you at a specified time and consider the $15 returned item your tip (make sure you ask for it in the app if you return the item). With that said, I completely reluctance to return it, they were A-holes.

Never ever report a lost item unless the rider initiated the contact. If they make contact, always make it seem you are a gazillion miles away and you won't be able to get to them until a lot of hours later or the next day. Any attitude from them, find the furthest possible cop shop and drop it off there. Take a picture of the receipt, send it to them, and let them know that they can get an attitude the cops when they go pickup the item.

If you have a phone conversation with them, this is your chance to lay it into them about not tipping and leaving that cup in your car.

Disclaimer: the right thing to do is to return the item but making a living hell for them for being irresponsible and inconsiderate is acceptable.

They missed the wedding, so couldn't give the roomba to the newlyweds. It's useless to them now, so leaving it for you must be what the man meant by taking care of you. Just read between the lines! Just kidding, return it but make it a pain for them as suggested above.

Maybe instead of thinking along the lines that they forgot I should think of it that they decided to regift it to me as a tip LOL.

If they report it missing they can send an uber to come retrieve it:) I'm sure as hell not driving it out to their house for the $15 fee

I'd likely make the effort to give it back (karma and all), but if you're gonna keep it, you need to delete this thread ASAP because you've incriminated yourself otherwise. Think of the possible outcomes that could happen if those folks just happened to search the 'net and read what you wrote in the OP.

When they got in my car they had this huge shopping bag. I found out it was a roomba.

I have a roomba that is seven years old I've been thinking about replacing but don't want to spend the money.

  11. That's not what I meant when I said "what bag?"

  12. What Roomba?

    Congratulations!!

And yes i have an awesome left-behind "gift" from some PITA pax who cheaped out on a high surge trip to the airport by ordering POOL WITH 3 suitcases, a few bags, and 2 people (BIG people!) - they took about $15-$20 out of my pocket since it should have been an x trip. No one and nothing else could have fit in my car. Bragged about their boat and money and blah blah blah blah rich people **** blah the whole ride.

I found a nice present (worth $150 - I googled) in the back seat after dropping them off that i use daily and love even more than I would had I purchased it myself .......it's the back story that makes them so awesome and lovely. Couldn't have happened to a nicer couple.

Lol that was kinda a cute response by OP, ha ha!

    Oops LOL. Long day

Now that I think about it seeing i want a new roomba anyway, I'm keeping it. Especially after they pulled the stunt of ordering during a surge and cancelling after the surge was over and reordering. Penny wise, pound foolish on their part:)

If they do get in contact with me I'm tempted to tell them that I had some real pigs for passengers that left trash behind in the backseat and I remember seeing the bag but just figured it was trash like the other items in my backseat and it went to the dumpster with the other trash left in my car:)

    What might that be?

Once someone left a brand new acoustic guitar in my trunk. Had a receipt in the case from guitar center store. I tried to return it to them twice, but the wouldn't answer their phone so i turned it into the police.

Tomorrow's headline on the internet, "Here's what REALLY happens when you forget items in an Uber."

  18. It's probably much better than what happens when you forget items in the bus.

    Lesson: finders keepers

    Also, keep what?

    ;)

  20. Nope never have, and I doubt I ever will. And I'm used to (from a previous life) constantly being entrusted with very high value baubles.
