Has anyone made any money in XL or Select?

If you had it to do all over again, would you have chosen to drive for Uber?

Has anyone made any money in XL or Select? I am talking about real money, not just chump change. I see a lot of people hold their pride in. About me, I have dropped $60,000 into luxury cars and still no where near profitable and do not see how I will ever be profitable. I am seeing this a lot on facebook with others losing their cars and houses because they cant make money in these categories.

Has anyone made any money in XL or Select on this forum?

Bad timing buddy. Select is just about dead in Atlanta since the last major pax app update only displays Pool and X, then needing to swipe for more options. Most pax aren't even aware there are more options.

If you dropped $60k on a vehicle (cars? plural?) you bought new, which is a big no no for Ubering.

Part time or full time? Part time, work the X surges and maximize your tipping potential. Full time... good luck.

I'm a part timer with a used vehicle that the car note is covered by my full time job that takes regular gas.

Dropping that much just to do Select is insane! I dropped $15,000 on a used 300 which is the lowest end Select car and I do fairly well. For Phoenix it has actually picked up more since Uber has now added the Select car to the front page of options unlike Atlanta apparently. Hope to God we never get stool here. Although I'm getting a lot of emails from Lyft about pool and if Lyft brings it here I'm sure Uber is sure to follow. The only downside to being on the front page is it's easier for people to see that Select is cheaper when there is a large surge on X, so I'm almost guaranteed to get a base Select ping instead of a 5x X ping

Trusting Uber to do right by you while you spend all that money on vehicles.
Sad.

Xl sucks uber takes way too much 28 percent it is only good to expand the number of surge pings you get
I don't like that either but in a market where you're not always busy it makes a difference, you get a lot of rides you wouldn't be getting otherwise and getting a premium for them.

Only drawback is you have to really shop around for a vehicle, minivans aren't cheap, hold their value well on the used market and there are only a few models made.

On the plus side, they're comfortable to drive and I can drive for 12 hours without getting sore or too fatigued. They also give you a little separation between you and the passengers and when you have drunks or scummy people that extra foot between you and them is a relief.

I have a bmw x1 and a black cadillac srx. I bought them to fit into multiple categories and while the bmw gets 28mpg it is still not profitable and I do not know how anyone else is profitable. regardless of part time or full time. Unless you have a car that gets 50+ mpg then I can finally see this being profitable but I believed all their lies about earn what you need and drive when you want. Does anyone else think thats @@@@ed up that they can advertise like this?

I have recording of people laughing at me at the corp office here in atl and telling me yeah the corporate office usually takes those and leaves whatever is left to us suckers who have spent this kind of money on cars based on false lies

I am sorry for ranting but I am being forced to move out of my house and about to loose my card because I believed their advertisements.

Some nights I get all XL - some nights I get all X. For me, XL is obviously more profitable (since I'm driving an XL vehicle, regardless of X or XL riders). I tell you what though - I switch to my XL-only profile at 1:30am on Fri/Sat nights, wait for the surge to hit > 2.5 and then go online. This has been very profitable each and every time.

It's a college town, so a bit different than most (there's always sorority girls and frat guys traveling in packs).

You took that risk as an independent contractor. No one at uber forced you to buy $90k worth in vehicles.

I certainly wouldnt invest 90k in any endeavour that relied on a single source for lead generation. Just because you couldn't do black doesn't mean you couldn't get commercial insurance and develop your business. Why invest 90k and leave it all in the hands of uber?

Bad business decision. Sometime we need one of those in life so we can learn to do better the next time.

Part timers with full time job, i needed my car with or without uber so my car payme tand insurance is covered by my real job.

Nothing in life is guaranteed, Select was great when i started. Now its not. Adapt and overcome.

Get a real job and continue doing xl/select on the weekend. Youll recover.

When did their advertisement say "go buy 2 luxury cars and you'll make a profit driving Uber Select and XL!!!"? What you're claiming you did is sooooooo foolish that it's hard to believe your story is true. I call BS.

Omg. I hope you paid cash and not with a upside-down car loan.

I just saw a brand new BMW 5 series the other day with an Uber sticker.

That's like going to a casino with $60K and not being able to figure out why you can't turn a profit. Here's your experience so far...sometimes you have a good night. Occasionally you have a really good night. But most nights are just average and the average is pretty low. You also have below average nights, particularly on weekdays. When you run the numbers at the end of the month, accounting for all your expenses, you realize you're losing money.

I know that's your experience because that's everyone's experience. There's no way you can make enough to cover a payment on a $60K vehicle consistently.
