FAQs for new Uber and Lyft drivers

Hey everyone, here is a remake of something I published about a year ago. It seemed very popular. So, with some minor tweaks, here it is again: FAQs for New Drivers

Q: Is Uber trying to screw me?
A: Yes. With every single ride. But you get used to it.

Q: Is Uber trying to get revenge on me? It feels personal.
A: No. They might throttle you temporarily for skipping or cancelling rides, but they don't know you, and they don't care about you. Nothing you did makes you stand out among the other 2 million drivers.

Q: Uber took over XX% of the fare, can they do this?
A: Yes.

Q: I'm so pissed, can I sue them?
A: No. Unless you opted out of arbitration.

Q: Am I in danger of being deactivated?
A: Yes. Always. For no reason at all.

Q: I heard Lyft is better.
A: You heard wrong.

Q: Should I rent a car to do this?
A: No.

Q: Why (blah blah) ratings (blah blah)?
A: Ratings don't really matter. Unless you drop below 4.60.

Q: Why can’t I change the rating I gave my Uber passengers?
A: Because Uber doesn’t care about passenger ratings. They only let you rate the passengers (pax) so you feel like you have some control in this job.

Q: Why doesn’t Lyft show me how much the passenger paid?
A: Because they don’t want you to know how greedy they really are.

Q: What's the best way to get more tips?
A: Be nicer to people.

Q: I've been told not to take Pool or Shared.
A: That’s good advice.

Q: Should I buy a dashcam?
A: Yes.

Q: What happens if my Acceptance Rate (AR) drops below 90%?
A: Nothing.

Q: What happens if my Cancel Rate (CR) gets too high?
A: Repeated warnings, then you’re done.

Q: Should I buy gum, candy, water, and/or snacks for my passengers?
A: No.

Q: Should I trust the GPS?
A: Only when it makes sense.

Q: Should I do UberEats?
A: Knock yourself out. Pays worse than X, but you don’t have to deal with people in your car.

Q: Should I wait at the airport lot for rides?
A: Please do, the rest of us thank you in advance.

Q: What if (when) Uber deactivates me unfairly?
A: Go to your local hub and hope they fix it. If they don’t, get a real job.

Q: Why don’t drivers unionize?
A: One, it’s not legal for ICs to unionize in the US. Two, no one has any way to contact anyone else. Three, with 96% driver turnover per year, it is extremely difficult for any rebellion to reach critical mass.

Q: Should I call Uber support for (blah blah blah)?
A: No. They are 100% worthless and will lie to you anyway.

Q: What are the best times and places to drive in my city?
A: The ones where you get customers over and over. And no one is going to tell you, you will have to figure it out on your own.

Q: Is my city oversaturated with Uber and Lyft drivers?
A: Yup, sure is.

Q: Is driving safe?
A: Absolutely! When random people sign up to use Uber they are background checked and fingerprinted before they are allowed to take rides, for the driver’s safety.

Q: Should I have a weapon for protection while driving?
A: Duh.

Q: What’s the best thing to use for self defense?
A: Your brain.

Q: How do I avoid horrible passengers?
A: Quit driving.

Q: Can I do cash rides?
A: Unless you have special commercial insurance, it’s illegal. But go right ahead.

Q: Should I refer my friends and family to drive for Uber?
A: If you hate them, yes.

Good luck!!

Hey extraordinary one please tell me how you as a new member got to make a post they wouldn't let me. How did you do that? They wouldn't let me and send me an email saying that they don't allow new members to make posts. Guess that was just for me...smh

I think "chisel" is a better word to describe it. Every move Uber makes is designed to squeeze just a little more money from riders and passengers through psychological, financial, and technological tactics.
