Anyone think these things work.
I myself see myself slowing down for them just to get a smiley face
Can't speak for the UK, but in Brisbane, Australia, these things are portable and are on rotation at various sites.
SPOILER: Ours contain a data logger, to record all passing vehicle speeds.
When a smiler sign disappears, very often a mobile radar unit appears soon after. Done their sums and worked out that there's enough speeding business there to generate good revenue.
My source: Neighbour - works for the Local Authority who operate these things.
So, yes, they "work", but not perhaps not in a way you might like to think.

How about a class action lawsuit for all this un needed radar radiation polluting our vehicles !

If it's not smiling that will give a reason to a nearby police car marked or unmarked to follow you they're there for a reason to force you to slow
I hate the one in brondetsbury park 20mph
