This would not happen when driving with Uber. Uber has emergency access and all you have to do is press a few buttons while you are gettin beat up to call 911. Then you have to wait till 911 answers the phone and tell them what is going on between punches. Make sure you stay conscious while you are talking to 911 or they won't be able to get the answers they need.
Let's see if Lyft steeps up to the plate and helps out the driver. I am guessing the best they will do is offer platitudes.
It pays to be ready to defend ones self in situations like this. I am always thinking of what would I do if I was attacked. "Chance favor the prepared mind." - Louis Pasteur
I am with you there. State law overrides ride sharing policies.
I remember what that barista at Dutch Bros. in Eugene did when robbed at gunpoint. He pulled out his legally held concealed weapon and shot the guy dead. Dutch Bros. has a no gun policy. But they not only looked the other way they gave all the staff 30 days off WITH pay and provided psychology support free of charge.
Because of this I am a big supporter of Dutch Bros even though I don't drink coffee.
Pretty crazy that he needs a Gofundme for medical insurance.
The turd who attacked him is supposed to be culpable for his medical expenses, for one (of course likely broke as a joke).
Also, Lyft expects drivers to accept every ping and not cancel based on discrimination of location (that you don't see until after accepting), with many of the passengers having a history of criminal behaviour or mental illness and all the while having a policy of not permiting driver self-defense. Blows me away that the government doesn't have some sort of medical expense requirements for Lyft, given the increased risks that Lyft's expectations and policies subject drivers to. This is the third incident I'm aware of involving unprovoked violence toward a Lyft driver in which the driver had overwhelming medical expenses (and of course received the heeve hoe one two middle fingers from Lyft).
