    From cbs2 Chicago.
CHICAGO (CBS) — A rideshare driver was battered by his passengers and crashed an SUV into a Brainerd neighborhood home early Monday on the South Side, police said.

The self-employed 51-year-old man picked up five male passengers in the 1400 block of West 93rd Street and drove them around for at least three hours, according to Chicago Police.

When he got back to the pick-up location about 12:35 a.m., two of the passengers battered the driver’s face, police said. He accidentally pressed the gas pedal and the SUV crashed into a building in the 9300 block of South Laflin.

Things are getting out of control. Risking your life for $10/hour ??

Why on earth would this guy drive around for 3 hours with these people? There's no way they could have been legit being in the car that long. Sounds like drug stops. It's one thing to get a long trip from point a to point b, but quite another to just meander around town.

We don't know all the details . But the question is: what do we do when one pax or more, puts a gun on your head or a knife by your throt, and tells you to drive or I'll kill you ??

This is y I don't pick up more than 3 people. The more people in your car the more problems and they never shut up all the way to there destination.

3 average people could beat you to death just fine.

You drive until you see a way out.

He probably didn't want to go to drive through for 15¢ a minute so they beat him.

    No NEED TO TIP !

    GOT YOUR BACK !

LOWER Rates means MORE MONEY !

I hate to be racist but I would not even have picked up the ping from that area. I never would have unlocked my doors if I see so many dudes of any race trying to get into my car. What are the odds of 5 dudes from this area trying to go somewhere when in reality they are probably going to beat the crap out of this guy/girl.

Damn. ToHunt just unloaded both barrels of THE TRUTH.

I'll add a bit though....1 person could beat you to death; they're sitting behind you! You start blind and prone in any encounter.

When rates go down rides go up !!!

The vehicle was a Chevy Suburban. My question (to UberBlack Drivers) is, do you guys frequently get rides where they essentially hire you for the evening and ask you to take them to multiple destinations throughout a night? Similar to hiring a limo for the night where you hire the car to take you to dinner, then a play, then a nightclub, then home (same driver and you pay for the whole night).

Or is this not really possible in Uber Black?

    Yeah, rideshare can be dangerous.

Yeah, you need to use due diligence, safe habits and protocols, common sense, and street smarts when you're out there.

The default word in this business is 'no', until it can be ascertained it makes sense to say 'yes'. It's not hard to say 'no' to certain hours, places, pax, or scenarios.

But after that, if you let yourself be in fear or anger that "you might be next", this ain't the gig for you!

No matter what we do or where we go in life, we roll the dice.

It wouldn't make sense to be hired out through uberBlack or SUV for hourly because the pay wouldn't be worth it for the driver unless compensated more off the books

I think I would simply crash into the nearest police vehicle and let them sort it out.

I don't care as long as I don't as I don't have to drive in Kandahar anymore. I'll take my chances until the Taliban or ISIS take a stronghold in my city.
