DF and getting DF'ed

Let me tell you a story boys and girls that will explain to you why my heart has hardened doing uber.

I am in north Raleigh, Strickland and Creedmoor road. I am headed to western Blvd and Avent ferry so I set the df and turn on X and Select figure I'll take a few bucks if they are heading my way. So I get a ping from Meg near Bluffridge and Sawmill. I qualified for pro because I have so few calls in the last month so I see the ping is 22 minutes south. So far so good all in my direction, excellent! Roll up and Meg has a suitcase, she's taking uber x to the airport. The airport is almost perfectly west of the pickup so I know the horrible truth uber will @@@@@ you out to get a pax picked up quickly, they could care less about my df. They have no trouble lying to you about the direction, the lie is built into the code.

Meg seems nice enough, a friendly 50 something business woman that talks to me and seems genuinely appreciative of the ride. Drop her off at the airport and take bag or I'd the trunk and hear the dreaded words "I'll TIP you in the app". I actually wanted to believe her but guess what, she df'ed me just like uber did. Two days and nothing has showed up. Lesson learned, should have told her to cancel and try again when I saw she was going to the airport or shuffled her.

Haven't driven since Christmas. Back in February they took off the DF and later re-instated it. I vaguely recall the reason they took it off but it was something along the lines of "passenger pick up time has increased so we have decided to remove it." After the backlash of drivers, they only re-instated it at non-peak hours. I figured that something was up with uber. Now I know that they re-instated it just to get drivers to go online and lie to them. Lets be honest, driver threshold for quitting uber is tremendously high. They would rather have angry drivers who keep going online, than happy drivers that stay off line. I'm just glad I got out when I did. Even with uber pro they lie to you. Its getting harder to fish for the rides you want. Yet drivers are signing up and driving at a constant loss. The gig is so convenient that a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush, even at a loss. Sadly most drivers cant understand the simple arithmetic of driving at a loss.

Really bites you had to go through that. The ariport from Avent Ferry is quite a strech. Thats an $11 ride. Good luck to you my friend. I dont see uber changing anytime soon. If anything, I think they will lower the rates for drivers while they pocket more of the money.

Maybe the algorithm averages out the pickup leg with the riding leg? In other words, you are closer to your destination at the end of the ride than you were when you accepted the ping, not when you picked up the rider.

This would explain a lot of what we have been seeing, to wit: a pickup run to a rider who is going back the wrong direction (but not as far as the pickup leg); a ride that significantly overshoots the destination; a ride that laterals the driver away from his route, but triangulates him incrementally closer to the destination, etc.

Does not work that way. It put me 14 miles away instead of 9. Them there's the fact that the uber pro direction straight out lied. That's a deliberate error to get me to pick up because there was probably no one else close. I don't have the energy to document and sue them again but I'm sure there's a law suit in there.

The casino has gotten bigger. Sometimes it works, other times it will do just that.

It was pretty obvious to me that they lost a lot of help with the DF gone. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t have brought it back. Just like with the airport ring, they now play games with the DF. They turn it on one day, and another day it’s on, but it’s not really there.

I just use postmates and lyft DF trips now. Postmates at least shows me the destination ahead of time, so i suck it up and deliver the food. Most tip anyway.

I got the ultimate insult today, DF to Gorman and Avent Ferry from Buck Jones. At Buck Jones and Jones Franklin I get a ping going 6 minutes NE at the Brickhouse by Meridith. I have a little time to kill even though I can already see it's out of the way. Get there in 8 minutes and just as I arrive, pax cancels. Should get a cancellation fee, right? Nope, comes up as $0, I messaged help, they tell me sorry they are working on the problem, 5 hours later I'm still out the $4.00. Got to love it!

Ah, yes I see. Start and destination were reversed. Hopefully I'll get paid without having to RIP their lungs out on Facebook. Some idiot programmer reversed the variables and didn't bother to test!

I had this same issue yesterday morning. I arrived at the pickup location. The house is dark. Timer does not start. I wait a few minutes then text the address to the PAX and ask if correct. 20 seconds later, the PAX cancels. No $4 for the cancel. Later, I looked at the trip record and see that I had gone to the drop off location. I opened a ticket thru the app and got my $4 about a hour later. Something definitely wrong with their software.

Yeah. This is happening too, but I don’t think it’s related to the DF. I don’t think this new crap with the DF is a glitch. I think they’re just doing what they do best, finding ways to mess with the drivers psyche or their passive aggressive way of getting us to change our minds and work more. I hope I’m wrong, but we will see.

Right, I was responding to this^^. Saw the article and remembered this thread. I have no idea about the DF, but thanks for reporting on the issue, guys; I only use Lyft's, now, and you probably saved me some inconvenience.

Just for grins:
Tuesday at 5, had to go to North Raleigh from Western. Turn on th edf, get an X ride to Aloft hotel on Hillsoboro, OK, 3.20 on the way. Get another ping right at Players Retreat 2 blocks away, forgot to look at direction. Guess what, they are going to Walnut Creek. How in anyone's world is that getting me closer to North Raleigh from Cameron Village. I feel like just leaving the trip open from now on till I actually get closer to my destination. This is getting way out of hand, why bother with the df if you aren't going to honor it.
