The city mob wants a cut of Uber's loot... Apt!
Typical Chicago politics. Everyone wants their piece of the pie.
Uber's gonna learn they aren't the biggest shark in the water. It's amazing they've gotten around regulations and paying their fair part to this point.
Their spin is always about how regulation is going to affect driver pay, and how it will stifle innovation. The biggest threat to driver pay is Uber.
I saw this coming months ago with the tax "emblems" (forms).
TNCs make "arrangements" to avoid or get around regulations.
Do keep in mind tha the description/definition of someone who "stifles innovation" or "is opposed to innovation" is someone who does not agree with T. Kalanick.
Chicago is going tax crazy. They imposed a 9% "amusement tax" on things such as streaming music, Netflix, streaming video games, etc. I doubt even Al would approve.
C'mon, hitting Uber with a surcharge for surge rates is poetic justice.
Meet modern day al Capone.
I just left. Wait til those property taxes increase again. There's already no police on the northside because they're all on the southside or downtown keeping Chicago off CNN. They're going to have a civil war of their own.
They're going to tax "sugary drinks" too which will attack the black diet of sugar and grease. I left right after the plastic bag ban. They don't even have a bottle return law and there's discarded cans and busted glass everywhere. Most ****ed up place I've ever been.
Keep voting for Socialism-for-the-masses-but-not-for-the-"elite" liberals, and you will get their programmes and their taxes.
Socialism is grand as long as everyone stays in lockstep and does his assigned task. The problem is that not everyone either can or will stay in lockstep and someone is always trying to get over on everyone and everything. Then there are those who suddnely realise that they are doing most of the work while everyone gets the same piece of cornbread and the same cup of coffee. They start to wonder why the guy who does little or no work gets any cornbread or coffee, at all. Then they decide that if those guys can do no work or a little work and still get cornbread and coffee, then they will, as well.
Then, again, Socialism is grand until you run out of everyone else's money.
