Another mess at the BCEC

So the Boston Convention center has 15,000 attendees this week, and the rideshare situation there is even more than the usual mess. BCEC has teams of in staff yellow-vests standing along Summer Street and at the valet parking section, to chase Uber drivers away from the front of the center. Rideshare is supposed to dropoff and pickup at the back of the center down D Street, as I learned from the shouts. Apparently BCEC is leaving to drivers to tell the paxes the bad news, we are to take them three blocks down D Street for dropoff, even thought their ride request says Summer Street. No signs out front about this policy, nothing in the app.

Uber has genofenced the BCEC, as I got a number of pickup requests down at the D Street location (the Lawn on D). Unfortunately while I was waiting at the pin on D, the riders called me to say they were waiting in front of the center, can't I pick them up there? So I made it work for them...

Meanwhile there is always a long line of cabs waiting along Summer Street right outside the front entrance.

But what a mess, it's really as if no one is in charge there. Anyone get accosted by the yellow vest team?

I ran into this during the last convention.

Get ping, see D st pickup, call pax, head to front of BCEC. Tell Yellow jacket to suck it. Drive off.

The walk to D st from the front of the BCEC is ridiculous. If Massport doesn’t wisen up the committee’s that pick these convention sites will choose other towns that don’t make their attendees miserable.

I have not been accosted but I think the BCEC sucks for pick ups and most drop offs. Almost always VERY short rides.

BCEC should have signs directing pax to the pick up spot. In Vegas, some of the casinos have a separate pick up spot from drop off just so there won't be a complete clusterf***.

I thought there is a drop off on the right as you enter the Westin hotel main entrance. That’s where I have always gone for conventions.

I won't ever do a pickup there. I'll do a pickup at the hotel if theres no event getting out. There's so many places in this city to get guarenteed rides. No point in doing pickups in places that suck like that. Not worth the aggravation when you can go 2 streets over to seaport and get a ride. And the people leaving the convention are always just going to a restaraunt or hotel nearby, which makes it even more pointless.

So I called the Boston mayors office and they confirmed that Summer Street is city property and that BCEC employees have no legal right to limit picking up or dropping off passengers on Summer Street in front of the BCEC.

Although the seaport is controlled by state police.

Opposite side if the building from D street has a dedicated rideshare pickup spot as well, but in three years, I have had only two requests from there.

The city needs to stop believing that rideshare is a nuisance, understand that visitors and citizens prefer this mode of travel, and start working together with rideshare companies to make pickups and drop offs around the city more efficient, while easy my tge congestion at the same time.

I can’t wait to say that to one of them.

When dropping off or picking up at BCEC all of us drivers should point out BCEC's policy to send rideshare down D Street to paxes and suggest they might consider complaining to the event organizers or to BCEC staff about that policy.
