Advice on first day as an uber driver! NYC

My main advice is don't buy an expensive car if it's going to be primarily used for Uber, you'll rack up the miles, blow through the warranty, and run it into the ground.

Never pass up a chance to go pee. CVS or the like is your best friend. Murphy's law will get you. This is NOT meant to be funny.
Other then that, go online, get your first ping and let Uber take you wherever it takes you. I like the rides that are no more then 10 miles. When you wind up 20 to 30 miles away and hope to get fares that will take you back it seems to never work. Always wind up driving back dead.
