Hi everyone, last night (4/3/2020, 11:00 PM) I got pulled over by TLC police in Manhattan, they asked me “are you working?” I said yes, after checking my driver licence and TLC license, handcuffed me and let me sitting in my car, I asked them several time for the reason, they didn’t give a clear answer exept “ you are not allowed to drive in New York” and told me wait for a 20 minutes to explain everything to me !!, later a NY police came to me and asked were you working ? I said yes, he told me that I have an unpaid ticket and DMV has informed TLC that my previlage for driving in NYC is removed !! I told him that I never and ever miss any ticket and pay them as soon as I get or I plea not guilty in legal time , he told this is driver assessment fee and I told I have never recieved any notice or alert for it !!, to be honest I didn’t know the meaning of driver assessment unless I googled it later, after 30 minutes they uncuffed me and gave me 4 summonses and tickets as following:

1- Criminal court appearance summon, reason: aggrevated unlicenced operation

2- TLC summons for civil penalties, reason: 80-11(c)(1), Driving without a chauffeur license

3- Traffic ticket, reason: unlicenced operation

4- Traffic ticket, reason: no standing anytime

Do you think they overreacted to me or it was a normal process ?, any advices for me please about tickets and summons? I feel terrible, in this slow business and being behind of all of my payments I was trying to drive everyday in the most contagious part of USA and now I will not be able to drive until when ?

As I wrote it was 11 PM , traffic was dead in that time

At the top of your page, go to US, point and click, scroll down to Northeast, scroll down to New York City, point and click. If on a telephone, touch "Forums", scroll down to cities, scroll down to Northeast, scroll down to New York City, touch.

I would get a lawyer for this. There are lawyers in New York who specialise in TLC cases. You may be able to deduct the lawyer's fee from your taxes. Check with your accountant or any professional who is qualified to give tax advice before you do that, though.

Piling on is not uncommon when it comes to these things. If the Hack Inspector stops you in the Capital of Your Nation, it is rare that you get only one summons. Usually, you get at least two, often four or more.

Post this question on the New York City Boards on this same forum. The drivers there can be of more help to you.

Oh, and welcome to YouPeaDotNet.

It's in their nature to overreact. I believe its impossible to get a warning from TLC and NYPD. I Give you 3 personal examples.

I was stopped by NYPD for yield sign around midnight with no one around 3 blocks from where it actually happened. Told me I didn't stop at stop sign which was actually the next block and didn't use my turn signal. I won the turn signal in court.

First week of getting TLC license. Working with base. I drop off passenger in JFK and a prick comes up to my window to take him to an area where my base is. I tell him I'll ask dispatch through a radio. Doors are unlocked at the moment. He gets in. Another prick comes up to me. Asks for my license. After 5 minutes tells me that this is a warning. 2 weeks later I get summons for $300. Paid my dues

I'm giving complimentary rides to doctors appointment. Again I'm stopped 5-10 blocks from where it happened. I was stopped by one guy, then his partner came, and in about 25 minutes another undercover comes and hands me the ticket. Reason, no TLC stickers and "I told them I was in the process of getting the stickers". No mention of word "complimentary ride". Gave 2 same $0-2500 summons. One for me, one for the company. I was in the process of quitting from company. I was told to keep working (~2 months) and that they would take care of tickets

Hire a lawyer. You can't win TLC citations by yourself

Sorry my friend. NY police is rough. I love San Francisco Police, they are really nice. This happened a year ago. I could have gotten it dismissed myself, but I didn't take a chance and hired an attorney. Make sure you hire an attorney.
Good luck!

I was a taxi driver in NYC. NYPD is the rudest and the worst Police force in the country. I had a similar experience like you. I hired Deborah McGee and we won. Ticket was dismissed. Give me a few minutes till I get my notes to the lawyer. It is in my computer.

It's funny, I 'liked' this post because .... I thought you were telling the guy to pick the right city ... to live in, to work in.
Wodda been my advice ... @@@@ing move.

Sometimes I think that the city power doesn't want people living there.
That's exactly what I did. I moved. NYC and NYPD are bullies.
