That's BS.

What if you just did an inspection in February.
I guess it depends if you got the emailed notice. My last safety was June 2016 under the free Canadian Tire program, now I gotta pay a minimum of 80.00 plus taxes.

Biker, you drive in Niagara?
Niagara and Toronto I've gotta go to Niagara every couple of weeks to deal with family commitments so I drive for a bit. Usually it's really dead out there. One PAX told me that there a few private drivers that are offering rides anywhere in Niagara for a flat fee (non Uber)

I got dinged for $1300 in repairs, not sure if I am making a bad decision continuing Uber. Just did this all in October, difficult to make that money. Lots of $4 runs from the hotel to casino I guess. I think the Summer will be slow, too many drivers and no students. Maybe the Go station will be better with weekend Go in Niagara.

It seems like every Uber rider I k ow has been given business cards but drivers. That seems to be the meal ticket.

Yes, last year Uber offered free safety inspections for GTA drivers @ Canadian Tire up to June 30th 2016.

Tourists still prefer to use Uber instead of cabs so it should still be busy. Go Bus/Train/ Amtrak are sure hits if you wait by the station. Who knows, maybe we'll have a tip option by the summer (Don't hold your breath)

I know a Certified and Licensed Master Mechanic who works in a big shop in the daytime, and works at home om minor things in the evening. Things like reasonably priced repairs on vehicles that have failed the safety. When you have safety failure, if you would get a written estimate, he will do his best to beat the price. You must have a written estimate of the cost of repairs. Just saying I need ball joints and they will re-safety my vehicle isn't good enough. Written estimate and he will do his best to beat it. Let me know if you need him. He asked me not to give out his phone number, until he knows what kind of work might be required. If no one can use him, no problem, but if you can use him, your car will be properly repaired. He has done almost all of my work for nearly 30 years.
