Getting ready for taxes, here's my profit

I believe you have to keep a log in order to claim mileage, so yes.

Getting ready for taxes, here's my profit

Agree. As I enter the data I can remember most of the passengers, from the guys drinking my car on the way to Rexall to the guy puking down Grierson Hill or my favourite was always the people scurrying home from a drunken hook-up the night before. I have some good stories, too bad it was a...

    New driver. Need to vent

I am careful on the dead KMs but it hardly makes a difference. If I adjust the chart above to your rate of $0.34 per km and cut dead kms in half it nets a $27.19 profit for about 11 hours work over three days. If I cut them out completely it moves to $51.19 for 11 hours work over three days...

that type of thinking my friend is exactly why drivers are poor and taxi companies and Uber are millionaires and billionaires, respectively.

    New driver. Need to vent

Yes, it's not exact but if I lowered the per km rate to 33 cents like you did, my profit would turn from losing -$28.89 to earning 37 cents for driving 320 km over 3 days. I used to think, 'man this sucks I'm making less than minimum wage.' In actual fact, I'm only making pennies a day. Ouch.

    New driver. Need to vent

Good post. I agree entirely. I have begun calculating earnings for 2015 in Edmonton and find that I've actually been losing money. Here is a snapshot of just three days that I have calculated so far. It's going to be fascinating to see what the rest of the year looks like (worse, I presume)...

Getting ready for taxes, here's my profit

2016 is here and it's time to do taxes. I've started entering my mileage log into excel and my goodness Uber was a terrible, terrible venture for me. I'm not done yet but I thought I would show you my first three days on the job I actually lost money. I can't wait to see what the next 400...

    uber and taxes in Canada

Just wondering if you've actually read the agreement you have with Uber? It very clearly states that they give you f-all. It says, "Company and its Affiliates are not required to provide you with any specific insurance related to your provision of Transportation Services." When you go to...

    uber and taxes in Canada

Alright, whatever works for you bro. But just be aware when government comes after you they have first rights to everything. In other words, they garnish your wages without any regard to other bills. By law, they get it first. So....good luck paying rent once bankrupt. Just saying...

    uber and taxes in Canada

How can you have no assets but have a car to drive Uber? Dude....they can seize your car, garnish your wages and raid your bank account. What will then happen is you will default an all of your other debts and have to go bankrupt then you won't be able to borrow anything again at least 7 years...

Look at what JFR1 said. You can have Uber pay your corporation but the corporation has to pay you, which you have to pay taxes on.

Great research, thank you! Here's the thing though -- we are a regulated industry, we just break all of the regulations. It's like operating a bar and saying you don't need to pay liquor taxes because you never went and got a liquor license so you're not actually a bar. It makes no sense.
