I'm heading down to Mexico this month and will take an Uber from the airport to where I'm staying. The trip will be 91 miles and about 1 hour 45 minutes. The cost to me, excluding tolls, will be... wait for it... 31 dollars. And we thought we had it bad. That's 31 dollars, less 25%, for a total payout of $23.25 for the driver. For driving 182 miles and 3 1/2 hours there and back. Gas costs the same as it does in the US. Plus the other car expenses, that's going to be around $2 per hour after all of them are taken out. F you, Uber. Really, F you. I'll tip the driver 30 bucks or so, but damn. This is just exploitation, in a third world country where opportunity not only doesn't knock twice, it usually doesn't even know where the door is. Shameful.
